Here are some stories making headlines across the Hudson Valley.
Two Queens men are now facing criminal charges for stealing wallets and cellphones from shoppers at local Trader Joe's stores, authorities say. Police in Darien, Connecticut, say a detective following a string of complaints camped outside a Trader Joe's store and saw the two suspects pretend to shop and look in a woman's purse. After trying to flee from police, both Jose Acuna-Penagos and Johan Barrera-Munoz were arrested. Police say they found the victim's phone and others stolen from Trader Joe's stores in Mamaroneck and Scarsdale. Both are due back in court on Feb. 21.
A Wallkill man has been charged with criminal sex crimes against minors including predatory sexual assault. Jordan Montalvo was arrested when Town of Wallkill police officers executed a search warrant at a residence on County Route 78. Montalvo has been remanded to Orange County Jail without bail.
Police in Goshen are looking for a woman behind what appears to be a fake call Tuesday night after they say the caller claimed she killed her father and was going to hurt herself. Town police say the woman said she shot her father. Officers checked a house on Knoell Road in Goshen, but no one there was harmed or missing when they arrived. Authorities say the woman claimed to be in emotional distress at the Orange County Veterans Cemetery, but that they also found no one there.
