Here are some of the stories making headlines in the Hudson Valley.
A Mount Vernon man has been arrested for allegedly stealing nearly $63,000 worth of fur coats. Police say in December, three men entered Engel's Furs in Stamford and began removing clothes from the racks. Investigators were able to trace their getaway car back to Westchester County. They identified Moses Nance as one of the suspects. Police say Nance has a lengthy criminal record that includes violent assault.
A major car theft ring has been busted in the Bronx. The attorney general’s office says nine people pled guilty. Four of the suspects located, stole, altered, and resold cars throughout the five boroughs, Westchester County, and the Dominican Republic. Forty-five cars were stolen in what's been dubbed "Operation Master Key" from the start of the pandemic to October 2023. Some of the suspects will serve 5 years of probation, while others will serve 1-3 years behind bars, and pay $40,000 in restitution.
A 21-year-old is dead after a car crash in Ulster. It happened around 4 p.m. Friday on Route 209, south of Sawkill Road. Ulster Police say Noah Ortman lost control of his vehicle and hit a Jeep head-on. Ortman was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and a passenger in the Jeep were taken to Health Alliance Hospital. The conditions of those victims are unknown this morning.
