A corrections officer from Westchester County, Carlos Rivera, is among six individuals facing federal corruption charges at Rikers Island. The FBI alleges that some of the defendants abused their former positions by accepting bribes from multiple inmates. Rivera has been charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and distribute drugs, with both charges carrying a maximum sentence of 20 years in jail.
A tractor-trailer rollover Tuesday led to significant traffic backups on Route 59. Police reported that Old Route 17 from Route 59 to the Thruway entrance ramp was reopened by 5 p.m.
A driver is recovering from minor burns after their car caught fire in White Plains. The incident occurred outside 30 Glenn Street while the driver was eating lunch in their car. The fire spread to a Metro-North van parked behind it, causing several explosions. Investigators suspect a faulty battery as the cause of the fire.
