Seven defendants, who pleaded guilty for defrauding a federal program aimed at helping Rockland County schools, have now been sentenced. Sentencings for each defendant range from time served to four years in prison - according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. The FBI raided several local businesses and homes in 2016. The program was designed to provide information technology to underprivileged schools. The U.S. Attorney's Office says four of the defendants received more than $14 million over a six year period - but admitted they did not provide the equipment the federal government was billed for.
Officials in Kingston are working to find out what caused a fire at a home on Garden Street. Fire officials say firefighters were sent out in the snow early Tuesday morning for a bedroom fire. They found a fire on the second floor - with one person having trouble breathing. Firefighters say that person stopped responding and was eventually taken to the hospital. The victim's condition is unknown at this time.
A Newburgh man is facing felony charges for allegedly driving while intoxicated for a second time. State police say they saw a vehicle in the median on I-84 in the Town of Newburgh early Tuesday morning - while traffic was stopped. Troopers approached the vehicle to see if the driver needed assistance. That's when they determined Eric Mack was allegedly impaired. Mack was previously convicted of a DWI in 2019. He's due in court next month.
