Services continue today for a powerful figure in Westchester County politics. Reginald LaFayette was a man who helped shape politics and government in Mount Vernon and in Westchester as a whole.
Westchester County Executive George Latimer and Sens. Jamaal Bailey and Andrea Stewart-Cousins paid their respects Thursday at the Macedonia Baptist Church to remember his legacy through the countless roles he held. LaFayette died Jan. 15 at the age of 69. He was the longtime chairman of the Westchester County Democratic Committee and the Democratic commissioner of the Westchester County Board of Elections until his passing. LaFayette will lie in state in the rotunda of Mount Vernon City Hall Friday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a viewing on Saturday at 9 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. service at the Macedonia Baptist Church.
A Mahopac man will spend seven years behind bars for selling drugs and possession of a weapon. Authorities say Kyle Novotny, 27, sold heroin to a Putnam County Sheriff's Office employee back in August of 2020. He also faces two years supervision after being released.
