Shots were fired just a few hundred feet away from Mount Vernon High School. News 12 was told it happened around 3:30 p.m. Monday - right around the time students were dismissed. Investigators tell News 12 that the shots were fired out of a passing vehicle, and that surveillance video shows another car was also involved. Detectives say they found one of the vehicles, which was damaged by gunshots. They are asking witnesses to come forward.
The father and son linked to a deadly fire at a Spring Valley nursing home were back in court Tuesday. Nathaniel Sommer and his son Aaron face multiple felony charges, including manslaughter, arson and assault. Court documents say the men blowtorching an oven led to the March 23 fire at Evergreen Court in Spring Valley. A firefighter and a nursing home resident were killed in the fire. A judge approved new counsel for the two men. Their lawyer declined to comment to News 12. Both will be back in court Dec. 14.
Rye ophthalmologist Dr. Ameet Goyal has pleaded guilty to falsely billing patients, Medicare, and private insurance programs for millions of dollars for eye surgeries he never actually performed. The FBI raided his offices in 2017. The U.S. Attorney's office says Goyal also admitted to fraudulently obtaining two government loans during the pandemic. He's scheduled to be sentenced in January.
