After three days in a row of over 90-degree heat, we officially have our second heat wave of the season in the books. The heat will finally break after today as a cold front slowly approaches the area. Temperatures will be knocked down into the 80s for Thursday and then the 70s for Friday, as we switch out the calendar from July to August.
Along the way with that cold front will come a flood chance from slow-moving storms. A flood watch is in effect starting Thursday at 2 p.m. and lasting until Friday at 2 p.m. the latest.
As this cold front approaches the area, thunderstorms will fire up for this afternoon and evening, for Thursday midday to evening hours and eventually tapering off for Friday morning. The atmosphere is packed with plenty of moisture, so as the storms come through, they have the potential of bringing torrential downpours. That is why there is a flood watch in effect, as the region could see about 1 to 3 inches of rain with some pockets of higher totals. After the rain passes by midday Friday, there will be a noticeable cooler feeling in the air. Temps will struggle to get into the 70s, making it feel like early September instead of early August. The weekend ahead involves sensational weather with lots of sunshine, comfortable levels of humidity and a nice breeze. Saturday ends up being the Pick of the Week, with the humidity being really low for this time of year and barely a cloud in the sky!
