yesterdayNews 12 got to ride along with Rockland County paramedics Rich Greer and Joe Baird during Monday's heat.
Greer says they had seven calls before 11 a.m., four hours into a 12-hour shift.
He says incidents included three related to the heat, motor vehicle accidents and a fall.
They use cold IV saline packs to regulate body temperatures on hot days.
News 12 followed the duo for their eighth call at a nearby health care facility that was not related to the weather.
The agency, as well as the Nanuet Community Ambulance Corporation, responded and has a message for the public on the weather.
“Drink lots of water and stay indoors if you can," said EMT Nathaniel Walsiyen. "Use that air conditioning. Stay cool wherever possible.”
As News 12 has previously reported, extreme heat is the leading weather-related cause of death.
CDC statistics show there were 1,600 heat-related deaths in the United States in 2021.
