Helicopters seen flying over Bridgeport and Fairfield are conducting a routine testing procedure, a U.S. Army Special Operations Command spokesperson said Wednesday.
Many residents have reported seeing the Chinook helicopters over the past few days.
The spokesperson said the procedure is being done to perform function checks.
They added that all requirements to do this were submitted and approved by the Federal Aviation Administration and the local tower manager.
A United States Army Special Operations Command spokesperson told News 12 on Thursday that flight testing will be complete on Friday.
"We greatly appreciate the community’s support and understanding during these routine flights," says USASOC spokesperson Jacqueline Hill.
News 12 also reached out to several other agencies and departments for additional information, but did not hear back.
