New Rochelle's Holiday Market is now open at the New Rochelle train station.
The winter village delighted many shoppers who stopped by it on Sunday.
"It just feels good," shopper Latishe Russell said. "There's trees everywhere…you have an ice-skating rink, there's hot chocolate…I really enjoy it."
Shopper Tracie Lopez said she was eager to help local shops.
"I enjoy the environment, the people, I love supporting the small businesses and learning what they have to offer," Lopez said.
Lopez said she bought some desserts from Gaelle's French Pastries. Gaelle Lopez is the owner and pastry chef behind the business.
"I live in New Rochelle and I'm a very proud people person," the pastry chef said.
The products that the pastry chef sold at her booth were a bit different from what Otilia Tanner, of The Humble Bumble Book, sold at her station.
"We specialize in books particularly of people of color [and] children of color," Tanner said.
Tanner said she's grateful that her books get to go on display.
"It's always important, but our mayor has said that 'If you can't see it, you can't be it.' So, it's important to make sure the children see themselves in [book] pages, so we can raise literacy rates and enjoy reading," Tanner said.
The
market is scheduled to run through Dec. 22.
