A new movie studio in Yonkers is creating buzz in Westchester's largest city.
The space is called Mediapro Studios. The boxy building off of North Broadway is part of Great Point Studios.
Mayor Mike Spano says its already become the filming location of projects that feature some of the biggest stars in the industry.
"These studios recently housed the new Tracy Morgan series...and currently Apple is filming here," Spano says.
The addition of this studio could speak volumes about how well the film industry is doing in Yonkers, a city that people also refer to as "Hollywood on Hudson."
"According to this 2024 report, the film industry is generating approximately $46 million in sales, right here in Yonkers, alone," Spano says.
Officials say Yonkers also collected over $900,000 from film permits, location rental revenue and taxes from hotel stays.
"One of the things we look for is, obviously, proximity to the city, ease of shooting, being welcomed. We're not going to be0 an intrusion to the community and Yonkers offers all of that," says TV director Mike Smith.
Robert Halmi, the CEO of Great Point Studios, says his company also operates multiple soundstages at two other locations in Yonkers.
"We've opened nine stages, giant stages...We have another six that are under construction," Halmi says.
As more TV shows and movies film in Yonkers, Spano says the industry has his support.
"We offer filmmakers what they need," Spano says.
