'Hope we get some answers.' Hundreds still displaced days after water main burst at Norwalk apartment complex

The Norwalk building department says the complex is still waiting for a piece of equipment to be delivered, and even when that happens, hundreds still may not be able to move back in right away.

Residents of the Halstead Apartments in Norwalk are speaking out days after being forced to evacuate due to a busted pipe.

"I feel like I haven't slept in close to like 72 hours," resident Luis Lopez says. "My brain is like the hamster on the wheel going nonstop."

Hundreds were forced to evacuate on Saturday, and three days later, residents say they still haven't heard when they'll be able to move back in.

"I just really hope we get some answers," Chloe Brown says. "I just hope we get the real deal on when we can officially go back home."

Some residents have been put up in hotels while crews work to fix the problem.

Residents say they've occasionally been able to go back into their apartments to grab essentials.

The Norwalk building department says the complex is still waiting for a piece of equipment to be delivered, and even when that happens, hundreds still may not be able to move back in right away.

Residents claim they notified the apartment complex weeks ago about potential problems with the pipes, but there concerns went unanswered.

"When you push a small problem off to the side long enough," Lopez says, "it becomes a bigger problem."

The apartment complex did not respond to our request for comment.
