A cell phone can hold the key on who to contact in case of an emergency. A new initiative being introduced could potentially save lives across Hudson Valley.

The plan called ICE, which stands for ?In Case of Emergency,? was conceived by an ambulance worker in Britain. The initiative asks cell phone users to create a specific entry labeled ICE for emergency contacts. Paramedics, police or doctors can then access that number if someone is in an accident or has a medical emergency. The initiative has gained so much popularity that police departments in Hudson Valley are promoting the idea.

Since most people already have emergency contacts in their cell phones, the plan involves reprogramming those numbers under ICE so they can be accessed quickly.
