Hudson Valley lawmakers are speaking out after a federal judge suspended the FDA's longtime approval of the abortion pill.

Rep. Pat Ryan (D-18) joined a Texas congresswoman to reintroduce 'The Protecting Reproductive Freedom Act.'

The bill would protect the FDA's ability to regulate abortion medication as well as protect doctors who prescribe the drugs.

A federal judge in Texas ruled to suspend the FDA's approval of Mifeprestone on Friday.

The pill had been approved for more than 20 years.

However, anti-abortion advocates filed a lawsuit claiming it is not safe and the FDA didn't study it enough.

Ryan argues that experts, and not extremist courts, should be responsible for determining the safety and efficacy of medicine.

The Department of Justice has already appealed the judge's ruling.

Westchester Congressman Jamaal Bowman (D-16) is among those urging the White House do all it can to preserve access to the pill nationwide. "The bottom line is reproductive health is health care and that's a women rights to choose what she wants to do with her body."

At the same time, a federal judge in Washington ruled the FDA must keep the pill available in 17 Democratic-led states plus the District of Columbia.
