Help is on the way for dozens of dogs being housed at a farm sanctuary in Montgomery that officials say is operating as an "unauthorized kennel."

Hudson Valley SPCA Humane Law Enforcement Officer Gene Hect tells News 12 that the agency is helping the owner of Bella Acres Farm, Jason Miller, rehome 60 dogs it found on the property this month after neighbor complaints of overcrowding and several town violations for unregistered dogs and noise.

Authorities say in the meantime, the SPCA is also donating food to the farm to help care for the animals.

News 12 spoke to Miller August 11. He said the animals are well-cared for and claimed he is not required to apply for a kennel license, since his property on Plains Road is partially zoned as agricultural.

Town of Montgomery officials, however, say Miller is required to apply for a kennel permit since dogs are not considered farm animals and claims he has failed to do so.

Hudson Valley SPCA humane law-enforcement say they visited the property last week and found no signs of animal neglect or abuse. They say Miller has volunteered to work with them to find new homes for the animals.
