Tens of thousands of fans headed out to Mamaroneck Wednesday to watch the last day of practice rounds before the U.S. Open tees off under extremely tight security.
State, county and local police were all over the grounds at the Winged Foot Country Club. The main objective was crowd management. Security guards were also around to check that everyone had a pass to be there. Once there, the crowds took time to learn from watching the pros and gather autographs.
Shuttle buses were provided to help the fans get to the U.S. Open. There were busing areas in Valhalla, Mamaroneck and the Bronx.
