Hundreds gather for police sergeant's funeral
Hundreds gathered at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kingston Monday to say a final goodbye to a popular New York state police sergeant. Forty-four-year-old Warner Hein died of a heart attack in his sleep last week. One of Hein's greatest impacts was on the Hasidic Jewish community of Kiryas Joel. Over the years there were many issues among the community of 25,000. As zone commander of the state police barracks in Monroe, Hein forged a bond of trust with Kiryas Joel officials and helped turn things around. ?He started getting into the community, understanding the sensitivity. And he worked with us very well. At the end of the day, he was more a brother to me than a police officer,? said Moses Witriol, the Kiryas Joel public safety director.Hein leaves behind a wife and a 4-year-old son.
