Crowds gathered in Valhalla Saturday for the Indian Heritage Festival where they experienced the culture, sights and sounds of the country.

For first time attendee Devansh Ranade of New York City, the festival offered the chance to reconnect with his Indian heritage.

"It's nice to see the community represented,” he said. “When I grew up,. my parents and I attended festivals and listened to music like this. Sometimes you miss the community involvement, but it's nice to be connected back to the roots."

Traditional dance, food and music are also part of the festival's cultural experience.

Designer Akanksha Ahuja sells accessories and handbags handmade in India.

"Our grannies, our mothers have been carrying these bags. It's part of sharing our culture, everything is here," she said.

The county has two more cultural heritage celebrations; the Jewish Heritage Festival on Aug. 17, and the Muslim Heritage Festival on Aug. 24.
