A Staten Island man was arrested Friday on charges he helped his wife commit suicide when their minivan plunged off a Bear Mountain cliff in Stony Point.
Authorities say 34-year-old Victor Han knew his 35-year-old wife, Hejin, was suicidal and gave her an opportunity to carry out her intentions Wednesday. Hejin Han was in the minivan with her two daughters when it rolled off a road in Bear Mountain State Park and tumbled down the mountainside into the trees and rocks below. The mother was declared dead at the scene and her daughters, ages 3 and 5, suffered minor injuries. Investigators say the children were strapped in the backseat, but believe Hejin Han was not wearing a seat belt.
Victor Han was arrested on charges of promoting a suicide attempt, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child. He is expected to be arraigned Friday.
