A local legislator wants convicted animal abusers to have their names put on a list that would prevent them from purchasing or adopting any more animals.
Legislator Gerold Bierker (R-9th District) wants Rockland County to start an animal offender registry. He says he hopes to eventually propose related legislation in the near future.
Officials from the Hi-Tor Animal Care Center in Pomona spoke in favor of the plan at a legislative committee meeting Thursday night. They said it would help them since they screen people looking to take a pet home.
