Observers of the holiday, which starts today, do not eat or drink from dawn to sunset.

But local leaders say, the fraction of a milliliter in a syringe injection for a COVID-19 vaccine doesn't pass through the mouth and stomach.

Ramadan is the biggest Muslim holiday, with a month-long observance that ends May 12.
