James Arthur Ray, a self-help guru who was convicted of negligent homicide in the deaths of three people, including an Orange County woman, has died at the age of 67 in Nevada.
In 2009, Ray sponsored a scenic retreat in Arizona, where dozens of people, including 38-year-old Kirby Brown of Westtown, participated in a ceremony in a hot sweat lodge. Brown and two others died as a result.
Ray was convicted of negligent homicide and served approximately two years in prison.
Brown's family received $860,000 as part of a settlement with Ray and his company.
