Orthodox Jewish communities gathered for a bonfire in Kiryas Joel Wednesday to celebrate Lag B'Omer.
The holiday is observed on the 18th day of the Hebrew month of Iyar.
The origins of the celebration lie at the burial site of the Talmudic sage Rabbi Simeon bar Yochai.
Lag B'Omer marks the anniversary of his death approximately 1,900 years ago.
