Right up until the last minute Tuesday ballots were being cast for the mayoral seat in the village of Monroe. Two current trustees, John Karl III and Jeff Peifer, were vying for the top spot. Karl, who defeated Peifer by a few more than 70 votes, said he is ready for the job. The new mayor must now appoint a deputy mayor, an attorney and fill his own trustee seat.
