The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's 'One Walk' event kicked off at Tibbets Brook Park on Sunday morning to raise awareness and money for research.
Organizers say the goal of the event was to complete the 25-mile walk and raise $255,000.
"They have hard days, and this motivates them. This encourages them to keep up the fight, to understand that there are others dealing with this besides themselves,” said Mimi Crabtree, executive director of the Greater New York Metro Chapter.
Members of the Yonkers community came out to support the walk and its aim to help researchers get closer to finding a cure.
