A fire at a multifamily home at 29 Kaser Terrace in Kaser has displaced a family, according to Ramapo police.
Ramapo police tell News 12 it appears to have been caused by construction work related to plumbing.
"Fortunately, no firefighter and no civilian was injured," said Yossi Gestetner, who handles public information for the Monsey Fire Department.
Monsey was one of about a dozen first responder agencies who fought the fire for about a hour. It began before noon.
Monsey fire officials say the basement has the most damage, and that the biggest challenge for them was putting out a fire in between the basement ceiling and the floor above.
They say neighboring homes were untouched.
"I think it is due to the efficiency of the Monsey fire department and all the departments who came to help us. The integrity of the structure is maintained," said Gestetner.
