Hudson Valley lawmakers are asking for more state funding to fix deteriorating roads and infrastructure.
Assemblyman Matt Slater joined other leaders outside the Somers Highway Department on Thursday. He said local governments maintain 87% of the state's roads and more than half of its bridges. Lawmakers want to see an increase in funding for the Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program, known as CHIPS.
"We are advocating for a $250 million increase for CHIPS which is going to help so many of our municipalities really not just recover from this extreme winter but make sure that our roads are up to par with our need," Slater said.
News 12 is waiting to hear back from Gov. Hochul's office for comment.
