Family, friends and community leaders said goodbye to a civil rights leader in Rockland County yesterday.

Funeral services were held at the St. Charles AME Zion Church for pioneer Leonard Cooke, who died last week at the age of 96.

Cooke spent a lifetime fighting for equal employment in civil services and working to end segregation in housing. The Leonard Cooke Pine Street Homes, which provide housing for disabled and low-income residents, is among his accomplishments.

Cooke was buried at Brick Church Cemetery in New Hempstead following the service. The flag at Nyack City Hall is being flown at half-staff in his honor.
