Around 500 people attended the 15th annual Lustgarten Foundation Westchester Walk on Sunday at SUNY Westchester Community College.
CEO Linda Tantawi says Lustgarten is the largest funder of pancreatic cancer research in the world. She said they hoped to raise around $200,000 from the Westchester walk alone.
David Chong, White Plains’ public safety commissioner, served as one of the guest speakers. He said he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer as a result of the 9/11 attacks and said 20 years later "it's come back."
"This is my second round with pancreatic cancer and, unfortunately, a lot of my contemporaries have died of this dreadful disease," Chong said.
He said he came out attend to support everyone knowing how tough this cancer can be.
