Another Hudson Valley staple is closing its doors after 40 years.

Macy's in the White Plains Galleria made the decision after careful consideration. 

Galleria officials released a statement saying they appreciate working with Macy's for all these years. "Although we are disappointed with their business decision to close, this is an opportunity to continue to evolve the asset through a transformative redevelopment with the integration of a mix of uses to meet the needs of the market. Our biggest concern at this time is the affected number of Macy's employees. To assist with their job transition, we will partner with the City of White Plains and The Business Council of Westchester to host a job fair in February for those seeking new employment opportunities," says Galleria General Manager Josh McCord.

White Plains resident Christina Hamlin says the departure takes away from the joy of in-person shopping.

"It's kind of sad because it takes away from the joy of going to try on clothes. Who wants to sit at home behind a computer all day?” says Hamlin.

It’s unclear how soon the store will officially close, but a clearance sale will begin this month and run for approximately eight to 12 weeks.

Macy's Cross County Shopping Center and Macy's Palisades Center will remain open.
