There's finally relief for drivers in Westchester County after nearly 24 hours of major road closures due to flooding.
The Saw Mill River Parkway in Yonkers is back open. There were significant closures on it for hours between Executive Boulevard and Lawrence Street.
"A lot of people making U-turns in front of all the traffic, a lot of people honking. It was just a lot, it was just a mess," says David Villeda, who is working in Yonkers.
One of those closures was in Elmsford, right where the Saw Mill meets Route 119.
"Our backyard area flooded, started pouring towards the door. It was tough," said Anthony Bartolotta, who owns Pete's Saloon & Restaurant.
About 3 miles away in White Plains, water rose quickly near the "The Dog Den." It's a beloved hot dog restaurant on Main Street that sustained minor damage.
The owner tells News 12 he has never seen this much water rise so quickly in this area.
The same goes for commuters who were getting off the train next door when the rain was coming down hard.
"Not going to lie, I was scared," says Rockland County resident Tyrell Walker.
