A 28-year-old Orange County man is fighting for his life Monday after falling from a tree in Chestnut Ridge.
Police say Matthew Campbell, who works for Ira Wickes Tree Service, was at a job site on Carlisle Road around 10 a.m. He was tethered to a tree while cutting limbs from above and another worker was on the ground preparing to take the limbs. While the worker on the ground was lowering the limbs from the top of the tree, police say it appears the tree bottom broke off. The tree fell 30 feet to the ground along with Campbell.
Campbell was rushed by a Stabilization, Treatment and Transport (STAT) flight to Westchester Medical Center. Since the incident happened on the job, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OHSHA) is expected to investigate.
