A man was hospitalized after being found with a gunshot wound outside a New Rochelle deli late Sunday night, and police are searching for the people responsible.

New Rochelle police responded to multiple reports of gunfire near 2 Harrison St. at about 10:46 p.m. Sunday. Officers arrived within minutes and found an adult man lying in front of a deli at that location.

Police said the victim was conscious but bleeding from the back of his head. Officers provided aid until emergency medical personnel arrived, treated him at the scene and transported him to a local hospital.

The man is listed in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries. His name has not been released.

While the victim was being treated, officers secured the area, searched for evidence and worked to identify potential witnesses.

An anonymous person told investigators they saw two men dressed in all black running toward Cedar Street shortly after the shooting.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Diaz of the New Rochelle Police Department's General Investigations Unit at 914-654-2270 or the department's non-emergency line at 914-654-2300.
