A Bronx man opened up his home to a homeless man only to be betrayed and find himself depending on the kindness of others.Mario Dissaro says he allowed Frank Prizzo to stay at his MacDonough Place house for a few months starting in August of 2007. Dissaro wanted to give Prizzo the opportunity to get his life back on track. However, Dissaro says he kicked Prizzo out after he discovered that he had been stealing and using drugs.
Prizzo later came back, stole tools Dissaro needed for his job and burned down his home. Dissaro says his grandfather's Korean War memorabilia perished in the flames. Dissaro's grandfather left him the home when he died in March of 2007.
Dissaro is now homeless and living from house to house with help from friends and relatives.
"I'm just stuck here with nothing," Dissaro says. "I'm homeless. I lost my job because of it. I lost a lot. I don't even know what to do or where to even start."He says despite his troubles, he wouldn't hesitate to help another human being in need. He plans to ask local elected officials to provide him with assistance to hopefully rebuild his grandfather's home.
Prizzo was arrested and is serving a 15-year prison sentence.
