A 39-year-old man is expected to recover after police say he was shot following a verbal dispute inside an event space on White Plains Road Thursday morning.
According to police, officers responded to a 911 call around 7:26 a.m., reporting a dispute inside the venue. Investigators say the argument escalated, and the victim was shot in the abdomen and buttocks.
The man was transported to Montefiore Hospital and is listed in stable condition.
A police officer stood by the entrance following the shooting. Residents who did not want to appear on camera but told News 12 that they have witnessed ongoing issues at the location. One mother said she often looks outside before walking her children to school because fights and large gatherings are not uncommon in the area.
She said groups frequently gather and party at the venue during the week and sometimes through the weekend, with cars lining the street and arguments occasionally spilling outside.
Another resident described the shooting as alarming, especially during the morning hours when families are heading to work and school. The resident also said large groups of people are often seen outside the venue and that intoxicated individuals have been involved in arguments and fights in the past.
Police have not announced any arrests.
