A 24-year-old man was slashed in the face Tuesday afternoon at the Fordham Road subway station, according to police.

Detectives say the attack unfolded on the station's mezzanine, near Fordham Road and Jerome Avenue, just after 3:15 p.m.

The 24-year-old suffered a laceration to the right cheek.

Paramedics took him to St. Barnabas Hospital, where police say he is expected to recover.

The attacker ran from the scene and may have boarded a 4 train, according to the NYPD.

Information about what sparked the attack was not immediately made available.
