A mandatory evacuation that was prompted by Friday's torrential rain was lifted in some areas in the City of Rye as weather conditions improved throughout the evening.
The City of Rye issued mandatory evacuations from low-lying and flood prone areas.
The heavy rain forced roads to close and flooded roadways throughout the city.
Mandatory evacuation orders were still in effect for some areas like Manursing Island, Pine Island Road and low-lying areas of Greenhaven as of Friday night.
There were concerns that first responders would not be able to get to areas near the Long Island Sound.
The city had set up a temporary shelter at Rye Golf Club on Boston Post Road where evacuated residents would be able to stay overnight.
The Rye fire and building departments will survey flooded buildings.
Residents who believe their gas or electricity has been affected by flood water are asked to call the Rye Fire Department at 914-967-4530.
