Good news for commuters: Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Friday that 100% of sheltered bus stops across the city have been cleared of snow.
However, regular bus stops have not received the same level of attention.
In Hunts Point, riders are still struggling to access buses after recent snowfall.
At the Bx6 stop at Hunts Point and Garrison avenues, riders were forced to climb over large piles of snow to board buses. Snowbanks were piled high, blocking easy access on and off the bus.
Just a few feet away, the fare payment station was completely clear.
Commuters said while prepaying fares was not an issue, boarding the bus often required improvisation. One woman had to step into the street to make herself visible to the bus driver.
Riders said they appreciate the city’s snow removal efforts but want to see the same attention given to all bus stops — not only those with shelters.
“They cleaned this side, as you can see, but over there by certain places it’s just hard to get over,” one commuter said. “You’re jumping over things, you slip. I fell the other day — thank God I’m OK — but they need to do better.”
The mayor said city workers are continuing 12-hour shifts to clear snow citywide.
