The Mid-Orange Correctional Facility in Warwick is closing in December, one of seven prisons being shut down in New York in order to save money.
According to state Assemblywoman Annie Rabbitt (R-Greenwood Lake), the 300 employees working at the medium-security prison will be relocated to other facilities in the state. She added that it's still unclear what the state will do with the land.
In a statement, the prison's Chief Sector Steward said the prison's closure makes no financial, logistical or logical sense.
