A Middletown father is mourning his teen son who was fatally shot in Brooklyn Saturday while visiting relatives.
According to Naquan Thomas' father, the teen was supposed to be at his grandmother's home in Manhattan. William Thomas said the courts gave the 16-year-old's mother, who lives in Brooklyn, visitation, but only at his grandmother's home.
"Something happened where the uncle got punched in the face. He came back and ? told my son he needed backup," said Thomas. "Next thing I know, I get a phone call ? that my son is dead."Thomas expressed disappointment with the Orange County courts, saying he fought the visitation with the mother to no avail. Thomas also has custody of his daughter.
Naquan ran track and field at Middletown High School, and he used to play football. Friends remember him fondly. "He was a good person," said Larry Gordon. "I love him. He was like a brother to me."
The NYPD says the shooter remains on the loose.
