Millions of dollars from the proposed New York State Transportation Bond Act is earmarked for Orange County.

The $2.9 billion proposal is part of a five-year, $35.9 billion capital program already approved by state leaders. Fifty-six million dollars of that is earmarked for Orange County. The bond act includes funding for reconstruction of Exit 126 off Route 17 in Chester, reconstruction of the state Route 17 Bridge over the heritage trail in Goshen, and replacement of the County Route 105 Bridge in Monroe. A full $40 million in funding would go to reconstruction of the Route 17, Exit 122 Interchange in the Town of Wallkill. Also included in the transportaion bond act is $10 million to upgrade state Route 17 to Interstate 86.

A state transportation bond act failed five years ago when it didn?t get the support of upstate voters who thought it would primarily benefit New York City.
