A Montebello family's feathered friends are facing eviction after they flew the coop and ended up on nearby school property.

The Hodash family has three donkeys, two goats, three peacocks and other animals. The family's yard is about 50 feet away from Viola Elementary School, where administrators complain the peacocks have wandered and defecated.

School officials filed a complaint to the village in June about the alleged problem, resulting in the village giving the family a September deadline to find a new home for the birds.

"They're not acting in good faith," said John Hodash. "We wanted the school to deal with us as neighbors." He also complained pigeons defecate at the school, but only his birds are being punished.

Hodash said since he can't stop the peacocks from flying over his fence, he will have to get rid of them. He said he worries the school will make him get rid of other pets, such as 10 guinea hens he was forced to give away last year.
