A Montebello village trustee has come up with a unique idea to prevent teens from driving recklessly.
Trustee Jeffrey Oppenheim wants to revoke school parking privileges for Suffern High School students caught speeding near the school. However, the Ramapo Central School District says it won't change its policy. School officials say it is a different situation than kicking a student off a sports team if he or she was caught drinking. The superintendent says in those situations the students have signed commitments to those sports or activities.
But Oppenheim says students should be held accountable if they're speeding to and from school. The school district says if speeding is a problem, police should have more officers patrolling the nearby streets.
