The small town of Montgomery, located in Orange County, celebrated its 200th birthday Wednesday.
The village was established on Feb. 17, 1810 in a local watering hole called Smith?s Tavern.
At the time, stage coaches traveling to Goshen would stop at Smith?s Tavern for a drink.
Now, the tavern has been converted into a home owned by Barbara Conroy, who says Smith?s is also where the first village meeting was held in 1810.
Residents of the community took the day to reflect on Montgomery?s beginnings, while also looking toward the future and what it might bring for Montgomery.
