Mount Kisco restaurant owners with ties to Colombia launch earthquake relief drive

As families across Colombia recover from a devastating 7.4 magnitude earthquake Monday, the owners of a new Mount Kisco restaurant are collecting donations to give back to those impacted.
Pizza Girls, a new restaurant set to open next month at 38 E. Main St. in Mount Kisco, was founded by cousins Laura Arias and Natalia Cardona. They were born in Colombia and later moved to Westchester.
Much of their family still lives in Colombia, making the earthquake especially personal.
Cardona said communication with loved ones has been challenging in the days since the earthquake because widespread power and utility outages have disrupted service.
Family members and friends have shared photos showing damage in several areas of the country, including Cardona’s hometown of Pereira.
Before officially opening its doors, the restaurant is asking the community to help by donating nonperishable food items and first aid supplies.
Pizza Girls is partnering with the nonprofit Colombians in New York to ship donations to those impacted by the earthquake.
Donations will be accepted daily from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 38 E. Main St. in Mount Kisco through Aug. 22.
Pizza Girls is expected to open sometime in September.
