A church in Mount Vernon honored local first responders Sunday for their dedication to their community ahead of Monday's 9/11 remembrance ceremonies.
The event included presentations from Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard.
"We're excited here, and when this robust Apostolic Church, which we also call every year, they acknowledge right around Sept. 11 for our first responders, and so they were honoring the heart of God that these individuals have for serving the Mount Vernon community in different ways," Patterson-Howard said.
"I thank this church for recognizing me for the small amount of work that I do for the city. Is not just me alone. There were many great honorees today of our first responders. So we do this for the city, and we thank you for the recognition," said Lt. Krista Man, of the Mount Vernon Police Department.
