Hundreds in Mount Vernon attended a vigil at City Hall Monday to remember the life of the 16-year-old girl who was fatally stabbed last weekend.
A walk was also held earlier in the day for Kayla Green in an effort to promote peace and put an end to the violence in Mount Vernon.
The events come as the 15-year-old accused in the stabbing death was arraigned. The case was then adjourned until May 3.
The suspect is facing three felony charges of manslaughter, attempted assault, and assault related to Green's death. Police say the attack also left Green's best friend badly injured.

A sea of pink and white lined the steps of City Hall. Green's mother, Lavern Gordon, was in attendance to honor her daughter's memory.
Green's aunt, Laura, spoke at the vigil also, calling on parents to get more involved.
"Parents talk to your kids, talk to your kids," says ??. "Get involved in their business."
The sophomore JV cheer captain was described as "energetic, a sister, caring and nice to everyone."
Jacob Sherman, was Green's co-captain on the JV cheerleading team. They used to walk home together after practice.
"She used to hold my hand very tightly, we used to walk each other home, and when we left each other, she would Facetime me and stay on the phone together the whole time until I got home, and say we love each other," says Sherman.
Green had plans to study nursing at Morgan State.
