Former UConn and NBA star Ben Gordon, a Mount Vernon native, was scheduled to be in court Tuesday after a recent arrest in Stamford, CT.

But the 40-year-old never showed up for court.

Gordon was arrested two weeks ago on his birthday. Stamford police say he threatened workers with a knife at Juice Kings on Atlantic Street.

Police say Gordon was acting erratically and resisted arrest. His lawyer says Gordon is now focusing on his health.

"He's doing fabulous according to his therapist and we want to build on that," said his lawyer, Darnell Crosland.

Crosland just filed an appearance for Gordon Tuesday. Crosland says the family didn't realize his arraignment was Tuesday.

"I spoke to his family.  He has a great supportive family. And obviously all these chain of events is not commensurate with his character and he's not here today because he's kind of pulling all his treatment stuff together and he's doing a great job," said Crosland. 

Crosland says he hasn't received any clinical diagnosis for Gordon, whose family posted his $10,000 bond.

Gordon played in the NBA for the Bulls, Pistons and two other teams.

The court had issued a bail commissioner's letter to Gordon but that was lifted once Crosland filed his appearance.  Gordon is due in Stamford Superior Court July 11. 

Police say they still don't know why Gordon was in Stamford. They found he had stun gun and brass knuckles.

Police say no one was injured in the incident. Gordon has now been arrested three times in the last six months.
