The Mount Pleasant police chief says one of his officers and a Pleasantville officer were forced to fatally shoot a Pace University student who allegedly ran down three cops with his car.

Chief Louis Alagno says Pleasantville Police Officer Aaron Hess was in the area of Finnegan's Grill in Thornwood when he saw a large dispute involving almost 100 people in the parking lot around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

After calling for backup, Hess approached a vehicle, driven by Pace student Danroy Henry, which was allegedly parked in a fire lane. According to police, when Hess knocked on Henry's car window, he allegedly sped off, throwing Hess onto his windshield in the process and almost hitting two Mount Pleasant officers. While clinging to the car's hood, police say Hess fired into the vehicle, along with one of the Mount Pleasant officers.

At least one eyewitness has given a different account of the story, saying that Henry was simply driving too fast and that the officer was struck as he tried to flag him down.

Henry was initially put into handcuffs when his car finally stopped, but when police realized his condition, they tried administering first aid.

"This is going to be a long, hard investigation and we will be as thorough as possible," Alagno added.
