A mural honoring a 19-year veteran of the FDNY and a September 11th hero has been vandalized in the Bronx. Peter Biefeld was on medical leave the day the World Trade Center was attacked, but when he saw the attack on TV he rushed to help and never came back. Now, a mural dedicated to Biefeld in Pelham Parkway has been destroyed by graffiti. The mural is now an eyesore of bubble characters and street tags that plague much of the borough and city. Community members say they are angered and in disbelief that a sentimental mural has been destroyed. Members of the 49th Precinct say they will pay for any materials needed to have the mural repainted.
